How To Stay Consistent

When learning something new, practicing it over and over again is crucial. We burn it into our brains. so that, upon recall, it is like second nature to us. We don’t have to think about how we breathe, we don’t have to think about the next letter as we type. Consistent action with proper technique leads to success.

I have found it best for me to have a small goal to reach. The easier the goal, the easier it is to stay consistent. I have set a 20 minute daily goal where I just code. If I have no project that I am working on, I use an app called Playgrounds. It uses a friendly game to teach you the swift language. Just coding and executing to see what happens. And I do this for 20 minutes and allow myself to choose to be done or not. Somedays, I feel super motivated and code way past the 20 minutes. It’s more encouraging after you accomplish a goal.

Another method is to use a reward system. If reading a textbook, place a Skittle on each paragraph and chew it while you focus solely on that text. Or restrict dessert until after your daily coding goal. Maybe treat yourself to a special meal after reaching a milestone. There are many ways to boost your confidence, and you know how. Set intervals ahead of time to give yourself motivation.

The key is holding yourself accountable. Understand that you are in control, and at the end of the day, you need to do what is best for you. Don’t beat yourself up if you miss a goal. Focus on the days when your best practices accomplish more than expected.
